A burn is a type of skin injury caused by heat, steam, electricity, chemicals, or friction. Most burns affect the skin, but burns may also cause damage to muscle, bone, or blood vessels. The level of injury varies according to how deep the burn penetrates the skin's layers and on how extensive the area of the burn is. It is imperative that all burns be treated as they may cause disfigurement and scarring and carry a risk of infection. Depending on the severity of the damage, burns can weaken the vital systems and create risk of multiple complications. Skin grafts are often used to heal the tissue and encourage new skin growth.
Accord Services understands that the injured worker is always at risk of complications until the wound is healed. Our nurses have received extensive training on how to treat burns to avoid further complications. Accord Services nurses are qualified to conduct the initial assessment needed to determine the burn area and depth and to treat severe burns, which often require intensive cleaning and dressing procedures.
